Golden Visa is the name given to the special regime of Residence Authorization for Investment Activity – ARI. The ARI makes it possible for foreign investors (non-European Union members) to apply for a temporary residence permit in Portuguese territory, and for this they must carry out one of the investment activities provided for in the regime.

Beneficiaries

• Spouse;
• Minor children, including those who have been adopted;
• Adult children who are single, who are studying and are under the responsibility of the investor;
• 1st degree ascendants that are under the responsibility of the beneficiary investor;
• Minor siblings who are under the guardianship of the investor;
• Partners who are in a de facto relationship, as long as it is recognized.

What kind of investment can you make?

Acquire real estate with a value of €500,000 or more

Acquisition of real estate – For Non-Housing Purposes

• Acquisition of properties worth 500 thousand euros or more – this value can be reduced to 400 thousand euros if the properties are located in low-density territories;
• Acquisition of old properties, in urban rehabilitation areas, for a global amount equal to or greater than 350 thousand euros – this value can be reduced to 280 thousand euros if the properties are located in low-density territories.

Acquisition of real estate – For Housing Purposes *

• Acquisition of real estate with a value equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros;
• Acquisition of old properties, in urban rehabilitation areas, for a global amount equal to or greater than 350 thousand euros.

*The acquisition of real estate for residential purposes will only be eligible for the purposes of obtaining a Golden Visa if they are located in the interior or in the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira.

Acquire old immovable property, in urban rehabilitation areas, in the global amount equal to or greater than 350 thousand euros

This value may be reduced to 280 thousand euros if the properties are located in low-density areas.

Transfer capital in an amount equal to or greater than 1.5 million euros

This modality includes, among other ways, the possibility of transferring capital to a deposit account with a credit institution in Portugal, for the acquisition of public debt instruments of the Portuguese State and for the acquisition of book-entry securities.

Create at least 10 jobs

This requirement may be reduced to 8 jobs if the investment is made in a low-density territory.

Invest in scientific research

Activities must be developed by public or private scientific research institutions, integrated into the national scientific and technological system. The value of this investment can be reduced by 20%, to 400 thousand euros, if it is carried out in low-density territory.

Investing in artistic production, preservation or conservation of cultural heritage

Whoever invests 250 thousand euros in artistic production and preservation or conservation of the national cultural heritage, will also be eligible for the Golden Visa Portugal. The value of this investment can also be reduced to 200 thousand euros if it is carried out in low-density territory.

Invest in mutual funds

The minimum investment amount is €500,000.

Investing in a commercial company headquartered in Portugal

Valid for investment equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros, intended for the constitution of a commercial company with headquarters in national territory. In addition, five permanent jobs must be created.
